Review: L'Oreal Excellence Cream 6 Dark Blonde/Natural Light Brown

A new favorite hair dye shade of mine is this gamble I took with L'Oreal.

So I am an ashy light blonde but after a month my hair goes brassy and shows outgrow. I always need a bit of a fresher brown, not too light, with a good ashy undertone, to freshen it up, especially in the summertime.

I went for this one because it's not as light as my usual favorite, the Garnier Belle Color 4 Dark Blonde (even though they have the same name).

I also think that L'Oreal dyes do make my hair feel soooo good. And, they finally added shampoo! This way I can rinse out excess product with a compatible product instantly. Also, there is more than enough product in a box, even though I have armpit length hair.

It looks deep brown on my skin, it will surely deepen my very (too) light brown hair that has gone brassy 'n' glassy from the sun.

I used the first dyeing technique, the option that is for hair that has already been dyed in similar shades and needs retouching. This meant 20 minutes on the roots and another 10 minutes on the lengths.

My hair was a dream to comb through thanks to the conditioner.

The first time I used it, the result was... ah-ma-zing! My color looked soooo much fresher, opaque and my hair felt so much healthier. It brought my hair from glassy and brassy to an actual lovely light brunette. I felt like a Victoria's Secret model (do those exist anymore?)!

I did think that 10 minutes on the lengths alone is waaay to short! It didn't seem to get a good grip there. 20 minutes on the roots first with another 20 on the lengths seems like a better idea next time.

My hair did look a lot better still because:

a) I have a very natural looking hair color, like my virgin, younger hair

b) it's pretty even

c) the brass is gone

d) the transparancy is gone

e) hair is easier to manage

f) it looks glosser

g) it looks thicker and stronger

h) it feels clean and smooth, there seems to be no build-up

Unfortunaly, the second time I used this dye, it was pretty dark looking, and my hair was very sticky, brittle and hard to manage. My hair felt dirty all the time, and it looked more brassy than the previous time. I fixed it with my Fanola No Orange shampoo a bit, but still, the difference was very big. I even kept a month in between dyes.

I will use the Garnier Belle Color 4 again next time, and it that one is too light, I might switch between these two.
